It was heart health month in February, and we had a talk at Form & Fitness with local Cardiologist Josh Liberman, MD (https://www.drjoshualiberman.com) and myself on strategies to keep your heart strong and disease free.
Dr. Liberman made an excellent point in the Q&A after the presentation about a simple, non-invasive test called a heart scan. The results of a heart scan are one of the most predictive tests for whether you will have a heart attack. Yet, few people have heard of this test, even though a staggering 700,000 Americans die of heart disease yearly!
He went on to say colon cancer kills far fewer individuals a year than heart disease, but a colonoscopy is the standard of care in our middle age. So why not the inexpensive and easy-to-get heart scan?
I have a favor to ask you. If you are over 40, consider getting a heart scan if you have not already. If the scan results are good, it will give you peace of mind. If the scan results show some issues, it might motivate you to make reasonable changes while you still have time.
Remember that all too often, the first symptom of heart disease is a fatal heart attack. Don’t let that be you.
Here is a 15 min. clip from the presentation of 5 easy heart health strategies I follow every day.
