Thank you, waiter. I’ll take the TOXIC chemicals on the side, please…

As a gym owner deeply invested in fitness and nutrition, my journey into understanding the complexities of our food system was triggered by a seemingly innocuous article a couple of years ago. It shed light on a concerning practice in modern farming: the use of herbicides like glyphosate, commonly known as Roundup, as a pre-harvest treatment on wheat and cereal grains.

The revelation that such chemicals could potentially end up in products like bread or cereals, staples in many households including my own, was alarming. While farmers and regulatory bodies assure us of its safety, the idea of spraying a probable carcinogen directly onto the food my family consumes was unacceptable to me.

This discovery propelled me into a deep dive into the world of food additives, a journey that left me both bewildered and concerned. The extensive list of substances added to our food includes pesticides, herbicides, bactericides, fungicides, artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, and more. Shockingly, over a thousand chemical additives are allowed in our food, with limited regulation from the FDA.

While not all additives pose immediate risks to human health, the presence of potentially harmful substances in our food supply cannot be ignored. As a parent and advocate for healthy living, I felt compelled to take action to minimize these risks for my family and my community.

One crucial step is to be mindful of the products we consume, particularly when it comes to bread. After extensive research, I discovered companies like Organic Bread of Heaven that prioritize quality ingredients and eschew chemical additives in their products. Their commitment to using organic wheat flour and crafting delicious whole-grain sourdough resonated with me, offering a viable alternative to conventional bread loaded with additives.

In addition to making informed choices about the products we purchase, I believe in empowering others with knowledge to navigate the chemical minefield in our food. That’s why I started a YouTube series, where I share experiments, insights, and practical tips to limit chemical consumption. In our latest episode, I conducted a moldy bread experiment and offered four pro-tips for minimizing exposure to harmful additives.

Ultimately, the journey toward healthier eating is ongoing and requires vigilance and education. By supporting companies committed to transparency and quality ingredients and by arming ourselves with knowledge, we can take proactive steps to safeguard our health and well-being in an increasingly complex food landscape.

Join me in this journey toward cleaner, healthier eating. Together, we can make informed choices and create a positive impact on our lives and the world around us.
