As a gym owner and physical therapist, it’s important to be aware of the latest research and best practices in the fitness industry. This includes being up-to-date on the exercises that are most effective and safest for your clients.
In this video, I discusses three ab exercises that you should never do with your clients. These exercises are all high-risk and low-benefit, meaning that they are more likely to cause injuries than they are to help your clients achieve their fitness goals.
The three exercises that I recommend avoiding are:
- Rotational Forces with Long Lever Arms: This includes exercises such as the Russian twist and the throw-down rotational force leg lift. These exercises can put a lot of strain on the lumbar spine and increase the risk of herniated discs.
- Side Bends with Dumbbells: This exercise can also put a lot of strain on the lumbar spine, and it is not as effective as other core exercises.
- Hyperextension: This exercise can be dangerous because it can put a lot of pressure on the spine and increase the risk of back injuries.
Instead of doing these exercises, I recommend doing the following safer and more effective alternatives:
- P-Press: This exercise is a great way to strengthen the core without putting a lot of strain on the spine.
- Landmine Rotation: This exercise is also a great way to strengthen the core, and it can be modified to make it easier or harder.
- Farmers Carry: This exercise is a great way to strengthen the core and improve stability.
By following the advice in this video, you can help your clients achieve their fitness goals without putting them at risk of injury.
In addition to the information in the video, here are some other tips for gym owners and physical therapists:
- Make sure your clients are using proper form when they are doing exercises. This will help to reduce their risk of injury.
- Encourage your clients to listen to their bodies and to stop exercising if they feel any pain.
- Offer a variety of core exercises so that your clients can find the ones that they enjoy the most.
- Educate your clients about the importance of proper warm-up and cool-down.
